Hampshire County CouncilThe Dreaming Paintbrush was the outcome of a competition set up by artist Geoffrey Robinson with help from Hampshire County Council. Geoffrey produced twelve paintings and from here evolved the idea of a short story writing competition, inspired by the paintings. “Juice was the company commissioned by Hampshire County Council to design the typography and layout for a very successful project, using the imagery from twelve of my paintings as the basis for an original concept, that invited twelve talented writers to each contribute one short story towards an illustrated anthology.” “Briefing Juice couldn't have been more straightforward, and with very little further consultation they were able to produce flyers, leaflets and posters for an open writing competition and travelling art exhibition, design and publish a dedicated website for competing authors, as well as handling the book's print production. The level of service was impressive, and the resulting designs far exceeded all expectations. All parties involved were excited and impressed by Juice's creative efforts.” Geoffrey Robinson, Artist Having designed brochures and promotional material for Forest Arts in New Milton for many years we were used to interesting and thought provoking artistic challenges. However the idea behind The Dreaming Paintbrush stood out as a truly imaginative and creative premise. The brief revolved around a writing competition organised by Hampshire County Council and renowned artist Geoffrey Robinson. Geoffrey's superb artwork was to be the centre of a literature competition where, inspired by the works, local writers would write short stories reflecting the imagery and their own personal take on what the artist was communicating. The initial design brief was to create an entry form and website containing competition entry information as well as the paintings themselves for reference. The competition was a success and the entries were all of a very high level. The next stage was to deliver the competitions main prize - a high quality book featuring the artists work alongside the winner's short stories. Continuing the already established look of the competition, the well presented look of the book balanced the beautiful paintings and stories equally over double page spreads. Uncluttered, dynamic, and colourful, the book was embraced by those who took part as well as enthralling those relishing a good read and the promise of incredible art. |
